We are looking for a Matchmove Supervisor to join our team in Vancouver! Great opportunity for a Matchmove Lead looking to take a leap!

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to be part of the formative years of a new studio in Vancouver. Our constantly increasing projects range from feature films to commercials. You will be working with artists with a wealth of experience on various productions. We are looking for talented artists who have the drive to keep up and contribute to this quickly growing company.


The Matchmove Supervisor is the head of the matchmove department and is responsible for the quality control of all matchmove assets. They answer to the CG Supervisor but also work in conjunction with the clients/production to ensure that matchmove assets are working consistently throughout the pipeline. When needed it will be important to step in to handle problem shots. This is a senior and important role, it requires an in-depth knowledge of industry-standard matchmove software and a thorough understanding of film cameras, lens and onset data, as well as management of the matchmove crew.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to model environments with or without lidars, measurements, and camera information. UV objects when necessary.

  • Expert Camera/Object matchmove. Ability to hand-key cameras/objects in Maya

  • Ability to take over shots that an artist is unable to complete.

  • Ability to Rotoanim a 3D character rig to precisely match actors. Including facial animation

  • Strong layout skills, including camera track overs.

  • Meticulous nature with a self-critical eye, and high standards. Able to QC own shots

  • Strong problem-solving and identifying solutions without guidance

  • Ability to give accurate time estimates for the entire matchmove team

  • Highly motivated, and be able to work with the entire team/production.

  • Mentoring and advancing new junior artists.

  • Regularly review and assess individual progress and goals of artists

  • Engage in the performance management process such as performance reviews, daily feedback, and mentoring

  • Communicate clear and concise issues to the Matchmove Leads.

  • Manage all aspects of the department, including leads, and juniors/mids/senior artists.

  • Maintain a professional level of knowledge about current developments in matchmove tools for computer graphics

  • Collaborate and help develop the full matchmove pipeline to optimize artist workflow

  • Work well under pressure. Excellent time management and work to tight deadlines. Handle client revisions in a timely manner

  • Positive attitude and excitement for new challenges in an intense production environment

  • Team player who excels in a collaborative environment

  • Handle client calls for new projects

  • Utilize effective communication skills to receive client notes and deliver instructions/feedback to artists

  • Accurate time management, handle bidding, understand the scope of work required with Production. Meeting production timetables/deadlines and budgets.

  • Build strong relationships with clients.

  • Provide recommendations and technical solutions to Clients

  • Responsible for ensuring that data coming from set is organized and available.

  • Interview and help select new hires

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer graphics or a related subject

  • 5+ years experience as a Matchmove Artist

  • 2+ years experience as a Matchmove Lead

  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a team

  • Expert knowledge in focal lengths, film backs, lens distortions, rolling shutter etc.

  • Expert level skills in Syntheyes and/or 3de

  • Knowledge in Rigging a plus

  • Strong Knowledge of Photogrammetry

  • Strong Knowledge of Maya

  • Basic Nuke

  • Soft tracking a plus (vertice animation with no rig)

  • The ability to script in MEL and Python is a plus

  • MMSolver a plus

  • Syntheyes - Geo H a plus

  • On-set supervision/ Data Collection a plus

  • Keentools a plus, will be required to learn
